In June of 2024, our entire region was jolted by the fury of nature. Torrential rains and a “perfect storm” of other variables transformed the familiar landscape of Spencer into a watery expanse. The floodwaters, surging and relentless, breached the city's defenses - inundating homes, businesses, and roads. The once vibrant community was plunged into turmoil, as residents scrambled to safety, their lives upended by the devastating deluge.
Amidst the widespread devastation, a beacon of hope emerged in the form of (the capital C) Church. From preparing & serving hot meals to a widespread supply distribution effort; the unity we saw amongst the body of Christ was nothing short of miraculous. The response of the churches in our community and the organizations that rallied to her side, serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of God through humanity. In the face of adversity, they came together to offer comfort, support, and a sense of belonging. Reminding the world of the power of compassion, resilience of the human spirit, and faithfulness of God.
Unfortunately there were some services that went on hold for a period of time due to the fact that many of them were housed in the same physical location in the heart of the devastation downtown. Our organization was formed to provide a new opportunity for some of those essential services to continue serving as the hands and feet of Jesus amidst the upheaval of their former property. Like many selfless members of our community - this flood may have damaged property and spirits, but that doesn’t mean that God removed His calling on our lives to serve Him and thy neighbor.
We are here to work alongside the ongoing flood recovery efforts and, if it be God’s will, plan to continue offering services until Christ returns!
You’re invited to join us on this mission by volunteering your time and talents by helping in our commercial kitchen as we provide hot meals and the sense of community that has always been an important part of the spirit of Spencer. Everything we do is encompassed by prayer and it is the single most important thing we can offer to EVERYONE in our area that receives care from our volunteers…and of course we welcome you to partner with us financially, as the services we provide are free to those receiving them, but are not free to our organization. All financial contributions are tax-deductible and “The Outreach” is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with charitable status.
